Celebrating Canada!

page-photo-419892Hey when it comes to celebrating Canada’s birthday, we’re all in!

In fact, we want to lead the way with a month chocked full of events to celebrate our country’s heritage!

On Canada Day itself, July 1, we are starting the engines with a 100 Mile Cruzers Show-N-Shine at the Church with some 40 hot rod and classic cars on display followed up by a huge free barbecue for the family! The show gets revved up at 1 p.m.

Then SUNDAY MORNING IN CENTENNIAL PARK — there is a One Church Gathering of half a dozen churches or more following the Knights of Columbus’ famous Pancake Breakfast! The service is on at 10 a.m. and will feature testimonies from several different folks as well as some great worship in the park.

Now here’s the plan we’re hoping to fulfill throughout July:

Every Friday evening throughout July, we have what we call Family Circle where the community simply gathers and hangs out around a fire, roast hoLelandasMichaelt dogs, plays volleyball and bocce ball, throw a football and enjoy the mosquitos. Family Circle gets underway at 5:30 p.m. each Friday and only goes to about 8 at the latest.

Then there’s a Classic Comedy Night with Leland Klassen on July 8 at the Heritage Site by the 108 Lake. Free family-friendly show starts at 7 p.m.

July 15 has the always entertaining Russ Rosen and band. Russ is a long time musician, singer, songwriter with some new Canadian content. Again, family-friendly with an Acadian flavour. Will be a great night out at the Heritage Site once again. 7 p.m. start. Free.

Norm Strauss, one of the finalists on therr Voice Germany, is a master guitarist and story teller you won’t want to miss. He’ll be performing at the Heritage Site at 7 p.m. on Saturday July 22.

The final week of July will be our annual Vacation Bible School at the Church grounds with the theme of “OH CANADA!” For more info on that, contact Children’s Pastor Hiedi Mack at hiedi@cclf.ca.

Then finally we want to showcase a wide array of local musical and singing talent on the final Saturday night of July, the 29th with a Local Live Concert, also at the Heritage Site.

All the way through July, our Saturday Night Church will become Saturday Night Light where we move it down to the Heritage Site Chapel and go unplugged! 5:30 p.m. on those.

We have applied for Canada government Grants to cover the costs of these events – and we received one but honestly are about $10,000 short of what we hoped for. We will still do all these events but will appreciate your financial help along the way.
